Insurance

Insurance, in law and economics, is a form of risk management primarily used to hedge against the risk of a contingent loss. Insurance is defined as the equitable transfer of the risk of a loss, from one entity to another, in exchange for a premium, and can be thought of as a guaranteed and known small loss to prevent a large, possibly devastating loss. An insurer is a company selling the insurance; an insured or policyholder is the person or entity buying the insurance. The insurance rate is a factor used to determine the amount to be charged for a certain amount of insurance coverage, called the premium. Risk management, the practice of appraising and controlling risk, has evolved as a discrete field of study and practice.

Forex Bank

Forex AB is a Swedish financial services company. The company was started in 1927 as a currency exchange service for travellers, at the Central Station in Stockholm. The owner of Gyllenspet's Barber Shop, according to the legend, discovered that most of his customers were tourists in need of currency for their trips. The owner began keeping the major currencies on hand.

The company was subsequently acquired by Statens Järnvägar (SJ), the Swedish State Railways, which expanded the operations until it was sold off to one of the managers, Rolf Friberg, in 1965. The company was the only one apart from the banks that was licensed to conduct currency exchange in Sweden.

The company, which is still wholly owned by the Friberg family, has expanded into Denmark, Finland, Norway and Iceland and has over 60 shops, usually located at train stations or airports. The decrease in the business brought on by introduction of the euro has made the company look for alternative sources of revenue, like applying for a banking licence and attempting to move into more regular transaction services, earlier handled by Svensk Kassaservice, a subsidiary of the state owned Swedish postal company, Posten.

Since 2003 Forex is a licensed bank.

2010 Subaru Outback

The Outback is one of the original crossovers that has appealed to outdoorsy types since it debuted 15 years ago. At the recent New York Auto Show, Subaru took the wraps off the latest version of the Outback which has been completely redesigned for the 2010 model year.

Among the most impressive improvements is an interior that’s larger in nearly every dimension. Rear legroom is up by almost 4 inches, and interior volume is up by 8 cubic feet. This is largely owed to a longer wheelbase and a chassis that is 2-inches wider than the outgoing model.

A more rigid body structure and revised rear suspension system should make the Outback ride smoother and quieter than ever. The stiffer chassis and a new engine cradle are also designed to make the Outback safer.

Ground clearance has increased to 8.7 inches for better off-road capability. The increased height combined with the more aggressive styling make the Outback look more like an SUV than ever before.

Two engines will be available. The choice for drivers focused on fuel economy will be a revised 170-horsepower 4-cylinder with the choice of a manual 6-speed transmission or Subaru’s new Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission). A new 256-horsepower 3.6-liter 6-cylinder is available for those who put a premium on acceleration and performance. It’s paired with a 5-speed automatic. Both engines are expected to deliver improved fuel economy.

As with all Subarus, all-wheel drive is standard.

2010 Aston Martin Rapide

It's been more than three years since the Rapide Concept made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but it appears the wait for this elegant sport sedan is almost over.

The production model does not appear to have lost much in the translation from the concept and the large sedan is instantly recognizable as an Aston Martin. The Rapide is fitted with seating for four as well as adequate trunk space for luggage.

The rear doors have been artfully integrated into the classic Aston Martin design, and according to the company, access to the rear seats is made easy via “'swan wing' doors - rising upwards and outwards as they swing open.”

Aston Martin Chief Executive, Dr. Ulrich Bez said: “The Rapide will be the most elegant four-door sports car in the world. It completes the Aston Martin range conveying our established attributes of Power, Beauty and Soul.”

The Rapide’s power comes from a 6.0-liter V12 engine that will be hand built at the company's engine facility in Cologne. Output is rated at 470 horsepower with 443 lb-ft of torque which should put the Rapide in position to compete directly with Porsche’s new Panamera.

Currently in its final stages of testing, the Rapide is expected to make its public debut this fall with first customer deliveries in early 2010

Suzuki focus on hybrid, EV development includes continued GM collaboration

Suzuki Motors, which makes fuel-efficient small cars but is desperately in need of a hybrid or other advanced technology car to help it break out of the niche-car mold, reportedly is focusing its R&D dollars and efforts on alternatively fueled vehicles now.

The company has restructured its research and development division with one unit working on electric vehicles, another on hybrids in collaboration with longtime partner General Motors Corp., and a third on Suzuki-developed hybrids and conventional gasoline engines.

Analysts at IHS Global Insight said that Suzuki has just $1.1 billion to spend on R&D (we're sounding like Congress - just $1.1 billion) in the '09-10 fiscal year and might not be able to keep up the three-pronged approach for very long.

Nissan unveils contactless charging system for EVs

Nissan Motor Co Ltd disclosed that it is developing a contactless charging system for electric vehicles at its briefing session.

The company aims to employ the system for the "next generation" of its electric vehicle scheduled to be released in fiscal 2010.

This time, Nissan Motor equipped the "Hyper Mini," its electric vehicle launched in 2000, with the contactless charging system and had a demonstration of charging it. The system was developed by Nissan Motor and Showa Aircraft Industry Co Ltd. It is an electromagnetic induction type, which supplies electric power between a feeding coil and a receiving coil. The rated output is 10kW.

Nissan Motor is planing to offer the contactless charging system for the next-generation electric vehicle as an option. And it is considering a 3kW-class system for home use. As for the pricing, the company expects the vehicle-mounted system will be priced at several tens of thousands of yen.

Also, as a future challenge, Nissan Motor cited the need to establish a system that can ensure a high charging efficiency even when a feeding coil and a receiving coil are misaligned in a horizontal direction. Specifically, it aims to charge an electric vehicle when the two coils are misaligned as much as 100mm in a horizontal direction.

96 VW Golf Harlequin Art Car - And the Harlequin Wannabe Registry

A 1996 Volkswagen magazine ad said, “Can’t decide on a color? Try a Harlequin Golf.” The 1996 Golf Harlequin is one of the most limited production cars VW has ever produced and presumably only 264 of these car are know to exists. Currently there is a VW Golf Harlequin registry at rossvw.com and so far only 91 of these car have been accounted for. If you own one of these Harlequin VW cars laying around the garage let Ross know and will add you to his registry.

Since creation of the Harlequin VW there have been others who have tried to make their own Harlequin version since the originals are so hard to get. That is why I started my own Harlequin Wannabe Registry here on art car central and if any you have one let me know and I will add you to my own registry.

New Rolls Ghost quicker, cheaper than expected

ROLLS-ROYCE has revealed the most vital details of its new baby, the Ghost sedan, including a lower than expected global price of about $300,000 and a surprising 4.9-second 0-100km/h acceleration claim.

The rapid sub-five-second sprint time comes courtesy of the new entry-level Roller’s already-confirmed 6.6-litre turbocharged BMW-developed V12, which it has now been announced will produce a whopping 420kW at 5250rpm and no less than 780Nm of torque from just 1500rpm.

Those numbers eclipse the performance of both the BMW 760Li’s 6.0-litre V12 (400kW and 750Nm, at the same revs), upon which the Ghost engine is based, as well as that of the famed British brand’s older Phantom engine – a naturally-aspirated direct-injection 6.75-litre V12 that manages 338kW/720Nm.

No weight or fuel consumption figures have been released, but expect the Ghost to therefore be heavier and less efficient than the long-wheelbase 760Li, which has a kerb weight of 2250kg yet sprints to 100km/h in a claimed 4.6 seconds, and is due on sale in Australia late this year.

Naturally, however, the 7 Series-based Ghost, which will make its worldwide production debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September before arriving in Australia towards mid-2010, is also likely to be lighter and more efficient than the Rolls-Royce’s 2485kg Phantom flagship.

The exterior of the BMW 1 Series (three door).

The side profile of the BMW 1 Series (three-door) is pure racing car. The elongated doors and frameless windows maximise the car’s sporting appeal while the passenger compartment is set far back, drawing the eye immediately to the rear axle. The car’s more dramatic side skirts further underline its dynamism, inviting you to open the door and take a seat.

hot cars

An automobile or motor car is a wheeled motor vehicle used for transporting passengers, which also carries its own engine or motor. Most definitions of the term specify that automobiles are designed to run primarily on roads, to have seating for one to eight people, to typically have four wheels, and to be constructed principally for the transport of people rather than goods.[1] However, the term automobile is far from precise, because there are many types of vehicles that do similar tasks.

As of 2002, there were 590 million passenger cars worldwide (roughly one car per eleven people).[2] Around the world, there were about 806 million cars and light trucks on the road in 2007; they burn over 260 billion gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel yearly. The numbers are increasing rapidly, especially in China and India
